Juliet, Eden, and I spent the night before the election following the Beats around Greenwich Village. Bob Dylan had his first New York City performance in Cafe Wha, Patti Smith would sit and write in Cafe Dante, and Kerouac and Ginsberg constantly hung around Cafe Reggio and the White Horse Tavern. In keeping with this month’s theme, each of these places are imbued with their own kind of “strange magic” and continue to serve as testaments to the beauty and madness that permeated the lives of the Beats.
